Kristoffer Smith
Kris joined the CHC at a moment when the board was seeking someone with educational expertise. Having long admired CHC’s record of service to schools in Eastern Idaho, he was excited to contribute to its broader mission and make a meaningful impact.
Kris has nearly three decades of experience in education. He is currently serving as the Director of Compass Academy. Kris holds an Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree and a Master's in Educational Leadership, both from Northwest Nazarene University. His bachelor's degree was earned from the University of Idaho, where he first qualified to teach Special Education, History, and Psychology. Kris worked as a Special Education teacher in both Boise and Idaho Falls. He served as the principal of Longfellow and Linden Park Elementary Schools. Additionally, he was the Curriculum and Instruction Director for School District 91.
Kris is active in service to the Idaho Falls community. He has been a leader and coach for youth robotics in Eastern Idaho. He has served on the board of directors for a private school, his local church, a statewide granting foundation, and the Idaho Falls Soup Kitchen. He and his wife currently lead a service team at the Soup Kitchen. They have done this for over 10 years. They prepare a meal once a month with their family and friends for 125-175 patrons. While the meals are being served, Kris is often found in the back washing dishes.
Kris loves being in the Idaho outdoors whenever possible. His deep love for Idaho, the outdoors, and community service was initially formed in the rural town of Weippe, Idaho, where his parents were community leaders: his father, a teacher and coach, and his mother, often the sole nurse covering a vast region.
Kris is blessed with the support of his wife, who has been his partner for over 30 years. Together, they are raising two daughters, who have made their journey all the more rewarding. They love to travel together where their favorite activities are dining and visiting art museums.
