High Energy Hounds Kept Safe With Kennel Covers

Since opening in 2015, the Snake River Animal Shelter has rescued thousands of animals. This no-kill shelter provides care to lost and surrendered pets, working hard to ensure not only that "fur-ever" families are found for pets, but that adoptive families and other pet owners are supported after bringing pets home.

Pets at SRAS are given many enrichment opportunities, including a recently renovated dog play yard, playtime with staff and volunteers, a free-roaming room for cats, and the Doggy Day Dates program.

Pet owners in the community are given support through dog training programs, low-cost veterinary care, financial assistance programs to help with pet medical bills, and a pet food pantry.

In housing some larger, high-energy dogs, however, the staff at SRAS were running into a snag: Some dogs could jump out of their kennels. The humans in charge were doing their best to contain these freedom-seeking canines by improvising covers made with chicken wire, plastic fencing, puppy pens, zip ties, and the like. However, these covers were not fool-proof, were not as safe as legitimate kennel covers would be, and were not easy to sanitize. When dogs escaped, injuries would almost inevitably occur,

So when Snake River Animal Shelter reached out to CHC Foundation seeking a grant to help cover the costs of purchasing "Kennel Lids" built specifically for dog kennels, we were happy to support this cause.
